This is Mpumalanga, where the air hits different and the teachers are doing the absolute most with the absolute least. Twenty-six teachers for 741 learners. Twenty-six. That ratio is not a school, that is one teacher standing in a field waving at children and hoping for the best. By the time your teacher gets to your desk to help you with that maths problem, you have already failed, repeated, and started a small business. But listen, those twenty-six heroes somehow dragged an 80.3% matric pass rate out of that situation and that is genuinely impressive. That is not a fluke, that is teachers who are basically running a relay race with no baton, no water, and load shedding cancelling the computer lab every second Tuesday. Meanwhile some fancy school in Constantia with a 1:18 ratio and a heated swimming pool is sitting at the same pass rate and charging your parents a bond for the privilege. The school is co-educational, which in a 28.5 to 1 ratio situation just means the chaos is gender inclusive. Everyone is equally confused about where the teacher went. Kanyamazane is not putting on airs and the school is not either, it is just getting on with it. Overall verdict: Understaffed, underfunded, and somehow still passing eight out of ten kids, which makes Ej Singwane more efficient than most things run by the government, and honestly more impressive than it has any right to be.
