That is like calling your braai a meat-only braai and then serving a lentil salad. Someone in Paarl sat down, looked at the name, looked at the kids walking through the gate, and said "ja nee, whatever, come in." 587 learners and 33 educators, which works out to a ratio of 17.8 to one. Not terrible, not great. Basically your teacher is managing a classroom the size of a minibus taxi, except the taxi at least has someone hanging out the door shouting to keep order. Your teacher is doing it alone, in Paarl, in that heat, trying to remember all 17.8 of your names before the bell rings. The 0.8 of a learner is probably the kid who only pitches up on Fridays. And Paarl itself, look, we love Paarl, the wine farms are beautiful, the mountains are stunning, but in December that town turns into an air fryer. These kids are sitting in class in February sweating through a Afrikaans comprehension test while the Berg Wind comes through like it personally has a grudge against everyone in the Boland. Eskom probably cuts the power right when the fan was the only thing keeping the teacher sane. Overall verdict: A public school doing solid work with real numbers in real heat, but sort out the name before the name sorts you out.
