That is not a school, that is a taxi with 36 people squeezed into every seat and the teacher is the driver who is also collecting fares and arguing with someone at the back. 36 learners per teacher, every single period, every single day. Your teacher did not even know your name hey. They just pointed and said "you, the one in the back, stop." And Helderberg you know. Right there between Somerset West and the mountain and the wind that will blow your test paper straight into the next suburb before you even write your name on it. You sitting in class, window open because it is boiling, and suddenly your homework is in Strand. Just gone. The teacher cannot even blame you because they watched it happen. But here is the thing that kills me. No fees. Zero rands. The government said this one is on us. And with 50 teachers carrying nearly 1822 kids on their backs like they are hiking up the Helderberg mountain, those teachers deserve a bonus, a holiday, and a very long lie down. Respect to them genuinely. That is not a job, that is a calling and also maybe a cry for help. Now the 92.3% matric pass rate. Broe. With those numbers, that ratio, that load, and the Cape Town wind actively trying to sabotage everyone, 92.3% is actually insane. That is not a pass rate, that is a miracle. Simanyene said we do not have money, we do not have enough teachers, we have the berg wind, and we STILL passed. The government should be embarrassed and impressed at the same time. Overall verdict: Understaffed, overcrowded, underfunded, and somehow still beating private schools in the results column. Simanyene is the Honda Jazz that keeps lapping the BMWs.
