Bray Intermediate School, sitting out there in Bray, North West, where the tumbleweeds probably have more direction than half the matric class. Eight hundred and thirty five learners, twenty four teachers, a ratio of nearly thirty five to one. Thirty five kids per teacher. Bra, that is not a classroom, that is a taxi rank with a whiteboard. The teacher is not teaching, the teacher is just trying to remember everyone's name before the bell rings. Some of those kids are basically self-taught at this point and honestly, respect. Now the school wrote its own description and the most exciting thing they could say was "day attendance only is offered, with no boarding facilities available." That is the school's highlight. Not a sports team, not an achievement, just "we confirmed that you go home at the end of the day." Incredible content. Marketing department really worked overtime on that one. And then there is the fifty four percent matric pass rate, which means roughly half the school crosses the finish line and the other half is still somewhere on the N14 trying to find the offramp. Listen, government no-fee school in the North West with one teacher for thirty five kids is running on hard mode from day one, and that is genuinely not the learners' fault. The system set this school up like load shedding, full of potential but frequently leaving everyone in the dark. Overall verdict: Bray Intermediate is out here doing the most with the least, which is either inspiring or a cry for help from the Department of Education, probably both.
