Ekwazini Secondary School in Middelburg, Mpumalanga. Middelburg. Right in the middle. Not quite Joburg, not quite the coast, just... there. Sitting in Mpumalanga like it forgot to pick a lane. But fair enough, the school itself is trying, we will give them that. Now listen. 1289 learners and only 32 teachers. Thirty. Two. That is a 40 to 1 ratio, my bru. Forty kids per teacher. That is not a classroom, that is a taxi rank with a whiteboard. Your teacher is not teaching, they are surviving. By period three they have forgotten your name, your face, and probably their own PIN number. If you needed extra help after school, shame, you were on your own, because that teacher had 39 other people with problems and a government salary that does not cover the emotional damage. But here is the thing that makes you shut up and sit down. A 93.5% matric pass rate. With those numbers, in those conditions, in Middelburg of all places. That is actually mad. The teachers are running on fumes and pure stubbornness, the kids are stacked in like it is home affairs on a Monday, and they are still passing at rates that would embarrass some fancy Cape Town schools with their brand new facilities and their "holistic development" nonsense. Overall verdict: Ekwazini is basically a pressure cooker with a chalkboard, and somehow it keeps producing results, chaotic, overcrowded, respect.
