Maripe Senior Secondary School in Greenvalley, Acornhoek. Greenvalley. They named the place Greenvalley and then put a school there with 10 teachers for 309 kids. That is not a green valley, that is a pressure cooker. One teacher is basically running a small township on their own every single period, trying to explain calculus to 31 people while probably also being the sports coach, the counsellor, and the person who locks the gate at night. Ten educators. Ten. Bra, that is not a staffroom, that is a WhatsApp group. And not even a big one. Load shedding takes out the whole school and there is genuinely one teacher per grade sitting in the dark wondering if this is what they studied for. The description says they "employ 10 educators delivering the CAPS framework" like that sounds impressive. Delivering it where, by wheelbarrow? With 30.9 kids per teacher those educators are not delivering anything, they are surviving. But here is the thing that will shut everyone up at the braai. 87.1% matric pass rate. With ten teachers, in Acornhoek, with a ratio that would make the WCED cry into their rooibos. Those kids and those teachers are actually putting in serious work out there in Greenvalley and getting results that schools with double the staff should be embarrassed about. Overall verdict: Understaffed, overworked, and somehow still winning, Maripe is basically the Bafana Bafana of Mpumalanga but the version that actually scores goals.
