Dilizintaba Senior Secondary School in Tsolo, Eastern Cape. Tsolo. Not Cape Town, not Johannesburg, not even East London. Tsolo. The kind of place where Google Maps just gives up and says "you know what, figure it out yourself." But respect where respect is due, because these kids are out here getting an education with zero fees and maximum hustle, and that is genuinely something. Now can we talk about these teachers? Nineteen educators for 702 learners. Nineteen. That is a 36.9 to 1 ratio, which means your teacher is basically a taxi driver who took on too many passengers and is now hoping nobody checks. One teacher, almost forty kids, one lesson, one prayer. The teacher is not teaching anymore, they are just releasing information into the air and hoping some of it lands. If you asked a question in that class you were basically doing a TED Talk because the whole room heard you. And yet, 80.6% matric pass rate. With those numbers, with those conditions, in Tsolo, with the Eastern Cape Department of Education doing what it does. That is not a pass rate, that is a miracle rate. These kids passed despite everything working against them, and that deserves a slow clap at minimum. Overall verdict: the school is stretched thinner than a budget tuck shop menu, but the results slap harder than a January school fee notice.
