Woodridge College (Gqeberha)

Woodridge College, sitting out there in Witteklip, which sounds less like a suburb and more like the name of a farm where your uncle keeps goats. You are not in Gqeberha proper, you are *outside* Gqeberha, which means even the city looked at this school and said no thanks, I will stay here. Christian ethos, boarding school, 781 kids living together in the Eastern Cape bush, that is not a school, that is a reality show waiting to happen. Lord have mercy on the houseparents. But listen, they are offering BOTH the NSC and the IEB curriculum, which sounds impressive until you realise that means some kids are writing easy mode and some kids are writing hard mode and they are all sitting in the same dining hall pretending they are equal. With a 10.4 to 1 learner ratio you would think every child gets personal attention, and with boarding facilities you would think there is nowhere to hide. Those teachers know exactly who did not do their homework and exactly who snuck out on Saturday night. No excuses. God is watching and so is the housemaster. The school description says "school fees apply" like that is a casual footnote and not the reason three families in the Eastern Cape are currently refinancing their homes. Witteklip, IEB, boarding, Christian, private. This school is doing the most in a province that is known for load shedding and not much else. Overall verdict: Woodridge is basically a monastery with rugby posts, but the ratio is genuinely impressive and your kid will either come out very well-rounded or very traumatised, probably both.
