A public no-fee school in the Eastern Cape with 230 learners and 14 teachers. At least the ratio is decent, 16 kids per teacher, which is honestly better than half the fancy fee-paying schools in Cape Town where one teacher is trying to manage 40 kids and a Zoom call at the same time. Now listen, Bolo Reserve is not exactly a place with a lot of resources flying around, and this school is carrying that whole community on its back with zero rands collected at the gate. Government says "no fees" like they are doing you a favour, but then forgets to also send the textbooks, the desks, and the electricity when load shedding decides to park outside for six hours. These 14 teachers are basically superheroes without the capes, or the salary increase. 230 kids, 14 teachers, a name that sounds like it was chosen by someone who genuinely believed in what they were building, and honestly, in a reserve in the Eastern Cape with no fees and no fanfare, that is exactly what this school is. No swimming pool, no marketing team, no Instagram page with soft-focus photos of the rugby field. Just real education in a hard place. Overall verdict: Not glamorous, not expensive, but those 14 teachers are doing more with less than most schools would dare to, and that deserves serious respect.
